Pain in the left breast

02/05/2007

Question:

I am a 32 year old mother of four. I have been having a pain in my left breast. It started a few weeks ago.The pain started off as a dull, sometimes sharp pain that came and went. Now it is a sharper pain that seems to linger longer. There is a discomfort all the time.I have not injured it in any way.I feel okay otherwise.I have found no lumps or seen any change.Could you please give me an idea whether or not this could be serious?

Answer:

Breast pain can be a result of many conditions. Some of the conditions can be serious where others are minor. Breast pain is rarely the first sign of a breast malignancy. However, breast pain (or pain anywhere for that matter) is not normal and indicates that something is not right. You should see your healthcare provider and have your condition assessed.
