Best weight lifting routine for weight loss02/26/2007 |
What is the best weight lifting routine for weight loss?
Losing weight comes down to burning more calories than you take in. If you have been maintaining a certain weight, then any activity you do will probably result in weight loss. If you want to lose weight by weight training, you probably want to do some sort of circuit training - going from one lift to another with little rest time. This keeps your heart rate up and increases metabolism.
These kind of routines are usually done with lighter weights and higher reps and can use anywhere from 30-60 second rest periods. You may want to start with longer rest periods and progress to shorter ones. If you look up circuit training online or buy a fitness magazine, you probably can find a good routine to follow.
As always, it is a good idea to consult a physician before beginning any exercise program.
