Allergic reaction to filler of Synthroid 25

02/01/2007 12:56PM

Question:

Hi- My mom started taking synthroid 25mcg for her thyroid.. THS was 13.2 T3& T4 are normal. She almost immediately has been suffering from extreme exhaustion to the poit she can barely get out of bed.

Can she be having an alergic reaction? he doctor is stummped , we discontinued the synthroid for a few days and the doctor recomended she goe back on it as stoping the Synthroid may cause more symtoms.

Her doctor also seems to hink that maybe her extreme exhaustion may be due to stimulating the thyrod and her bodies responce to trying to get her back in the "normal range"-- Also what is the nornal TSH Range.....

should we ask for a script for 50mcg and split it and see what happnes??

Answer:

It is difficult to say what is going on.  I would have your doctor check thyroid autoantibodies which might be contributing.  Also he/she should try prescribing a different preparation of thyroid supplement.  It doesn't sound like a drug allergy but more like an intolerance or adverse reaction.
