How many times do we have to chew our food?

02/14/2007

Question:

how many times do we have to chew our food?

Answer:

Thanks for your question.  I suppose it depends on how big and how 'chewy' the food is.  For example, a mouthful of peas may only require chewing 5-10 times to break them up into small enough pieces to swallow, whereas a piece of steak may require 20-30 chews prior to swallowing.  For best digestion, chew your food thoroughly and drink plenty of water with meals, as well.  Good luck!
