Osteoporosis

Should Actenol be Stopped For a Root Canal Procedure?

02/28/2007

Question:

I am currently taking Actonel. I need to have a root canal procedure. How long would it take for Actonel to get out of my system before I have this work done? Thank you.

Answer:

It can take a long time for Actonel to get out of your system.  There is no consensus that people have to stop their bisphosphonate prior to dental work that involves the bone, but to be cautious you could stop the medication now and resume it once the area is completely healed.
