Pulmonary Hypertension |
Lung disease and tricuspid valve regurg.02/27/2007 |
My mother`s doctor said she had a tricuspid leak and this was due to her COPD and her being SOB was related to all of this. What is the relationship between the tricuspid leak and COPD? or is it the relationship between the leak and her SOB? Thank you. Susan
Tricuspid leak is what we look at to diagnose pulmonary hypertension by echocardiogram. Many patients with COPD may have mild pulmonary hypertension. A small number of patients with COPD can develop severe pulmonary hypertension which leads to worsening shortness of breath. Whether the pulmonary hypertension is significant and needs to be treated will depend on a more detailed evaluation of her COPD and pulmonary hypertension.
