Rise in PSA Level Due to Other Than Cancer
I have been told that my PSA has doubled since my last test six months ago. I have had a biopsy done but don`t have any results as yet. Is there any other reason that a PSA can go up other than cancer? I have had periodic flair ups of acute prostatitis for the last two to three years. No one in my family has ever had any type of cancer to the best of my knowledge. I am 70 years of age.
PSA can go up secondary to a prostate infection. I suggest you discuss the biopsy findings with your physician who should be able to provide you with more specific information regarding PSA, prostate cancer and infection.
