Legs weak after RA flare

03/08/2007

Question:

I had a very bad flare of my RA. I had to stay in bed for a week unable to walk, dress myself, use the phone or feed yself. I am only 33 years old. Now that I have been up and going around for four days now but my legs still fell very weak. Could this be from being in bed that long or could this flare caused some damage to be done?

Answer:

Chances are your weakness is due to deconditioning from being in bed for 4 days. However, you should probably see your physician to get your muscle enzymes checked out to make sure that you do not have a developing myositis (inflammatory disease of the muscle) as the cause of your weakness.
