RE: Depo provera03/15/2007 |
I have had problems with my menstral cycle and broke through the pill, my periods range from 8 to 10 weeks. I tried the deprovera in hopes it would slow the bleeding down and control it. It worked at first and now no such luck. any thought of other options to try? My Gyn suggested a hysterectomy. This is a las resort for me, I am looking for other options. I have had multiple D/C procedures done over the years and two leeps. Is there a way to reverse the deprovera shot also? Could it be making the bleeding worse or continue? I look forward to a response back thank you for your time and effort.
There are many causes for abnormal uterine bleeding, without knowing the cause, I can't determine your options. It can be classified as either abnormal hormones or abnormal anatomy. Hormonal control with both estrogen/progesterone (birth control)will regulate the hormones and improve the bleeding. If it is anatomic, like a fibroid or polyp, surgical correction, even a hysterectomy will help. The depo provera causes ovulation to stop, which causes a disruption in normal hormonal changes. You can't reverse it, but you can override it by giving hormones to restart periods.
