Hemochromatosis

Percent of iron

04/03/2007

Question:

is it normal for your iron saturation level to go from 78% to 7.4 after just one phlebotomy?

Answer:

That seems highly unlikely. One phlebotomy takes off about 250 mgm of iron, and most people with hemochromatosis have over 10 grams of iron.
