Should a White Spot on Gum be Biopsied?
I have a painless white spot on gum over eye-tooth. A whitish streak runs along gum about 1 1/2 inch long. Hard for me to even see it. Oral surgeon wants a biopsy of spot(he didn`t notice the streak). Gums are smooth and feel fine. No pain, no itch, nothing. I have no health problems. Do not drink, do not smoke. I do not want to be cut when I have no problems. I think the spot disappears when my cheek is lowered again and is not pulled up. What can cause this and if it were you, would you get a biopsy?
It is difficult to answer without examination. If there is concern about the recommendation, a second opinion from another oral surgeon or ENT specialist is reasonable.
