Digestive Disorders

Mucus-White Foam in stool

05/16/2007

Question:

My son in 5 years old and the past two weeks has had a mucus substance in his underwear. Yesterday he had a white foamy substance excrete from his rectum. I have an appt. with a dr. but it is not for a few weeks. Any ideas on what this might be? No other symptoms. Normal stool when he has a bowl movement otherwise.

Answer:

If your son is feeling completely normal other than the mucus in the stool, then there is probably nothing to be concerned about. I would be a bit more concerned if you said your son was also having other symptoms with the mucus in the stool such as abdominal pain, diarrhea, fevers, vomiting etc.
