Menopause

Hair loss

04/03/2007

Question:

I am going through symptoms due to surgical menopause. The hair on my head, underarms, pubic area, and extremities have disappeared and has not grown back. I also had a history of polycystic ovary syndrome. Will my hair ever grow back? Can I do anything to aid in getting my hair back?

Thank you

Answer:

What you describe sounds like alopecia universalis.  That condition is generally usually considered to be an autoimmune condition and is separate from menopause.  Consult with your physician or a dermatologist.
