Iodine Deficiency04/16/2007 |
I have been taking heart meds for over 10 years now. And in doing that I have stop eating salt. I want to know if this would cause my thyroid not to work right, and what can I do about it without taking any more drugs.
Iodine deficiency is virtually unheard of in this country because there is iodine not only in the salt but also in vitamin pills, sea fish, shellfish, and to a lesser extent in milk, eggs, and meat. Also, iodized salt may be present in some of the foods you eat even if you don't put salt on them yourself. It is unlikely that you are iodine deficient, but if you are concerned, a simple multivitamin every day will insure that you get the proper amount of iodine.
