Acute Palm Pain

Question:

Periodically, on either hand, just under where the fingers meet the palm, I get excruciating pain, if any pressure is applied to the areas (ex, I grab and try to turn a doorknob). Again, the pain is just below where the fingers meet the palm, but on the palm. Nothing relieves the pain - I simply put those sticky corn pads on the areas to cushion any contact. There`s been no injury to my hands - so what`s causing the pain - Is anything damaged - and what can I do about it? Thank you.

Answer:

The pain may be mechanical as it is occurring only with activity/pressure. Consulting with your physician or a rheumatologist may be a good place to start to rule out arthritis like problems. There are also rare neurological conditions that can cause similar pain.
