Hot flashes in teen years?

04/26/2007

Question:

Is it possible to get hot flashes in your teen years or am I just imagining something? Is it just a hormone thing? Is it not a hot flash that I am experiencing? Is it just being over heated?

Answer:

In premenopausal women the most common experience of hot flashes is right around the time of the menstrual period when estrogen levels drop.  Many women also experience them after childbirth - again because of the drop in estrogen levels.  If you are getting unexplained hot flashes (not related to exercise and getting too hot), check with your physician.
