What routine tests would you expect a Neurologist to do to rule out other diseases before giving a diagnosis of Parkinson`s Disease?
There are no specific tests that can diagnose Parkinson's Disease (PD). The diagnosis of PD is made clinically based on history and examination findings. If the features are typical for idiopathic PD, no further testing is needed. However, laboratory studies and diagnostic tests are done when the history or exam findings are not consistent with idiopathic PD. This can include brain imaging (CT scan or MRI), thyroid studies, inflammatory studies, vitamin levels and other routine laboratory studies.
