Should Both Fosamax and Evista be Taken to Prevent Breast Cancer?06/18/2007 |
I am 56, 125 lbs, active, not a smoker, with a low-fat diet, taking Fosamax 70mg/week for borderline osteoporosis. My sister had estrogen positive breast cancer at age 60 (she had been on HRT for many years). On the advice of a doctor, I added Evista to reduce my risk of breast cancer, but another doctor says that she doesn`t recommend the two together. What do you suggest? Are there any studies of using the combination? I do not mind paying the extra amount, I just don`t want to get into trouble by using the two meds together.
I agree with your doctor. It is not necessary to take two osteoporosis drugs. At this point in life, you should do well with Evista alone and you would be getting two benefits in one pill.
