Lump in neck

06/01/2007

Question:

I woke up one morning and noticed a small enlarged lump on my neck right below my ear lobe. It is hard and does not move. I have been told this could be my lymph nodes, but what I need to know is what causes this and what it can be?

Answer:

It could be a lymph node, which can be enlarged from infection or tumor.  It could also be a tumor of the parotid salivary (spit) gland in that area.  You should see an ENT or your regular doctor for evalution.
