05/17/2007

Question:

I had my period on the 8th of this month . Like normal it last 3 days. for some reason it came again on the 15th of the same month. I was recommended to take Birth control pill to make it stop. same scenario last moth as soonas I take the pills after 3 to 4 days the flow stops. I was told to keep taking the pills to make it stop. What could be causing this problem. Must inform you that i had my period since I was ten, always regular, always last 3 days and now this for the past 3 months.

Answer:

There are many causes of abnormal bleeding. I can't go into detail of all of them, but you can get more information from the online articles here and the previously asked questions regarding abnormal bleeding. You could have an infection of the cervix or uterus, you could have a polyp that is causing bleeding in the uterus. It could be that your hormonal balance is abnormal. You need a further work- up before submitting to oral contraception.
