Eating Disorders

Need Help

06/05/2007

Question:

I started on a diet a few months ago, but I`m now getting to the stage where I don`t even want to eat a meal a day. I only want to eat crisps or nuts only once a day, and recently I have started making myself sick if I think I have eaten too many nuts or crisps. I don`t want to see my doctor as its embarrasing. Can I get through this on my own? I weigh 8 stone and I`m 5ft 7ins. What can i do?

Answer:

Although you may feel embarrassed, this is not something that your physician hasn't handled before. The nature of eating disorders make them very difficult to handle without professional evaluation and help (as you've experienced for yourself, they tend to take on a life of their own). I hope that you can overcome whatever discomfort you have so that you may live a healthy life.
