Does orthodontic treatment with extractions of 6 wisdom teeth and 4 front teeth affect the sense of smell and taste? Is local anaethetic dangerous if a patient refuses to have his teeth pulled out after the injection?
There is no reported cases that I am aware of that there is a loss of taste and smell from extractions. The nerves governing these areas are not in the general area of injections. Sometimes there is temporary numbness following wisdom tooth extraction, but this is most often of a temporary nature.
If no extractions are done then the anesthetic simply is absorbed and no longer a factor, so no danger here.
