Do I need a dexa scan?06/18/2007 |
I lost 1 1/2 inches in height since 2001. My bone density screening (from lifeline screening) of my left ankle was -1.4. My doctor said that screenings do not mean anything. I am worried and think i need a dexa scan, because I havre severe stiffness in my neck and low back. And my upper back is stiff and it is hard to turn over in bed. How can I get a bone density screening if my doctor will not order it?
Neck stiffness and low back pain are not symptoms of osteoporosis. If you have significant risk factors for osteoporosis, a bone density test would be indicated. See information on risk factors for osteoporosis.
