Prostate Procedure With Hip & Knee Replacement06/08/2007 |
My dad is waiting to have the procedure PVP for his non-cancerous prostate enlargement. He has had a total knee & hip replacement on his left side. His doctor says he doesn`t know how this will affect the procedure. Do you have any information?
I am not familiar with the acronym “PVP”. If this is a vaporization of the prostate with laser, then he should be able to undergo the procedure as long as there are no positioning problems due to the hip and knee (usually not). With prosthetics such as total joint replacements, antibiotic prophylaxis is indicated and I am sure that his urologist is aware of that assuming he or she has been given the complete medical history.
