Arthritis and Rheumatism

Alternatives to NSAIDS

I have arthritis in my knee and am trying to postpone replacement surgery. Mobic helped considerably, but I can no longer take it or any nsaid because of kidney function. Creatine level is 1.6. Are there other appropriate medications that I could take that do not involve kidney function? I tried tramadol-50mg 4xday, but it is not very effective. Tylenol isn`t working either. Thanks.

Other oral pain medication alternatives include Darvocet or Tylenol #3. Topical pain relievers include Capsaicin cream if not tried previously. Also corticosteroid injections and hyaluronic acid injections intra-articularly may help delay need to for total knee arthroplasty.

* Learn important new information concerning the FDA withdrawal of the medication Propoxyphene(Darvon, Darvocet)
