Provera not inducing bleeding?06/21/2007 |
My doctor has recently decided that I may have PCOS. She ran some tests and that, as well as the other symptoms, seem to all point to PCOS. Because I haven`t gotten a period in 6 months, my doctor put me on Provera for 5 days to induce my menstrual cycle so she could see if I was ovulating. I finished the Provera and still have not gotten a period (and I am not pregnant). What could the explanation for this be? And what would you suggest be my next course of action? My doctor doesn`t seem to be too concerned about it...Thanks!
Usually, a patient will have a withdrawal bleed within 2 weeks after finishing her medication. If a period does not occur, we usually do a blood test (FSH, Estradiol, pregnancy test) then give a shot of progesterone to induce a period (some patients with PCOS do not respond to the pill).
