Would Smokeless Tobacco Cause Lump on the Tongue?

07/02/2007

Question:

Hello, I am been using snuff tobacco for six years. Lately under my tongue, the little round lump under the center of my tongue has increased in size, and seems to be becoming asymetric. There is no pain or discoloration, but it always feels like something is under my tongue. It is worrying me, but wouldn't using snuff tobacco primarily affect the area where the it is placed? Also the two vains the run front to back on each side of my tongue seem to be swollen as well. I am wondering if this is just inflamation or something more serious? Any help would be appreciated.

Answer:

This should be evaluated by an ear, nose, throat (otolaryngologist) physician or oral surgeon.
