Inheritability of Liposarcomas
Are liposarcomas hereditary?
Liposarcomas sometimes develop in individuals with hereditary cancer susceptibility syndromes, but they are very rarely hereditary. Families with hereditary cancer susceptibility have some of the following features: individuals cancers at younger ages than typically seen, individuals with rare cancers, multiple individuals in more than one generation with cancers, and a limited number of types of cancers.
If your family has these features, you may wish to consider scheduling an appointment with a genetic counselor or medical geneticist. You can find a genetic counselor by visiting the website for the National Society of Genetic Counselors.
