Are liposarcomas hereditary?
Liposarcomas sometimes develop in individuals with hereditary cancer susceptibility syndromes, but they are very rarely hereditary. Families with hereditary cancer susceptibility have some of the following features: individuals cancers at younger ages than typically seen, individuals with rare cancers, multiple individuals in more than one generation with cancers, and a limited number of types of cancers. If your family has these features, you may wish to consider scheduling an appointment with a genetic counselor or medical geneticist. You can find a genetic counselor by visiting the website for the National Society of Genetic Counselors.
