Anorexia

07/12/2007

Question:

i have just been told by my doctor that i have anorexia nervosa im 167cm tall and weigh 7st 5lbs.i have just been a month without any food but i have now started eating again {biscuits, activia yoghurt and ice cream} ive put on a few pounds and im really scared im getting fat again.ive now started taking diet pills, will i lose weight again if i eat and take diet pills.

Answer:

I suggest that you discuss this with the doctor that gave you the diagnosis of anorexia nervosa. It is often difficult for individuals with anorexia to return to any normalized eating patterns because of fear of gaining weight—even when such weight gain is desperately needed. Diet pills are a poor option for those who truly need to lose weight but are even more problematic for someone whose health may already be compromised by anorexia. Gaining help in tolerating a return to normal eating patterns and in conquering the fear of weight gain would be a more productive focus for you.
