Blood pressure reading08/20/2007 |
my husband went to the doctors - he had a sore throat and his asthma was acting up - the nurse took his blood pressure and it was 130/62 - is that good or bad - if I remember correctly is his blood pressure is usually 110/80 or 120/80 i think somewhere in that area
It is true that the ideal blood pressure is 120/80 or lower. However, current guidelines define hypertension requiring treatment in an otherwise healthy person as 140/90 or higher.
People with diabetes or kidney disease are at higher risk for stroke and heart disease and should have a blood pressure of 130/80 or lower.
In the case of your husband, his blood pressure is normal and he does not need any treatment. However, he should have his blood pressure rechecked at least every two years.
