Abnormal mestruation

08/09/2007

Question:

I have had normals periods for a while now but now i`m having problems. i started my period on july 24th and quit on the 29th. but then i started again today which is the 5th of august. it is a very light one but i am cramping more then normal too and i`m kind of worried and wondering what is going on.

Answer:

The reasons for menstrual irregularities are numerous. Some are age-specific while others are not. Also, in conjunction with age and timing, some are worrisome and some are not. Statistically, the most common reason for menstrual irregularities is pregnancy, followed by failed ovulation, uterine masses, and certain endocrine (hormonal) imbalances not necessarily arising form the ovaries themselves. The exact cause of the problem as well as its significance can only be determined through careful gathering of history, at least a brief focused examination, and quite possibly some laboratory evaluations.
