Fluid buildup08/06/2007 |
Does Pulmonary Fibrosis cause fluid to buildup between the lung and the chest wall? This is happening and the doctors can`t find out why. All fluid biopsys have come back negative.
Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis usually does not cause pleural effusions (fluid build up between the lung and the chest wall). However, other causes of pulmonary fibrosis, such as rheumatoid arthritis and systemic lupus erythematosus, can have both pulmonary fibrosis plus pleural effusions. Also, because heart failure is very common and can cause pleural effusions, the combination of heart failure plus idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis can result in both pulmonary fibrosis plus pleural effusion.
