Menopause

Bleeding after menopause

09/17/2007

Question:

Is it abnormal to bleed after menopause. I am 55, and have not had a menstral cycle or bleeding for over two years. Now the bleeding seems to have come back. I have had mild bleeding for over two weeks, and need to know if I should be concerned or if this is normal.

Answer:

It is not uncommon for women to have some bleeding after menopause, but it should not be considered normal until tests have been done to be sure everything is okay. The longer it has been since menopause the more concerning the bleeding is. Any bleeding after one year certainly needs to be evaluated.
