Weight gain after marriage

08/15/2007

Question:

I am 27 and got married 18months ago.I have been taking contraceptives as safety measure. But some people say that its harmful if taken in excess. They say it increases the risk of infertily in women. Is it true? Some people also say that you need to have a baby before you cross 30 and would be harmful for both if you cross that age? Pls advice the answer to me since it is confusing me very much.

Answer:

There is no evidence that oral contraceptive pills increase the incidence of infertility. There is some evidence that they may even protect against infertility. It is known that women on OCPs have a lower incidence of pelvic inflammatory disease, a cause of infertility.
