Feels like I am lying on a wadded sock!09/04/2007 |
A week or so ago, I noticed some pain in my left rib area. When I take a deep breath it looks like my left rib cage isn`t symetrical to my right and right in the spot where one would do the heimlich...on my left side, there feels like there is a bump! When I lay down, I feel like I am lying on top of a wadded sock! I work in a shoe department and I could have injured myself and not even know it! Could you tell me what this could be?
It would be unusual to have sustained an injury to a rib but not recall the injury. It's possible the pain is not related to the bump... that is, the bump may have been there prior to the onset of your pain, but you didn't notice it until you developed pain in that area. If there is a rib problem in the front of the chest, this could be "costochondritis" (inflammation where the rib tip attaches to cartilage), or, if there's been trauma, a rib - or "costochondral" -subluxation or dislocation, also referred to as a "sprung rib."
A specific diagnosis and treatment plan should result from consulting with your physician.
