I take natures way alive vitamin,it contains grape fruit is that harfull i have high blood pressure?
Grapefruit juice can increase the blood level of certain calcium channel blockers (felodipine and nifedipine). This could theoretically cause lower blood pressures because it increases the effectiveness of these drugs. However, the effect is small and can easily be avoided by taking the medication a few hours before or after drinking grapefruit juice.
Grapefruit juice has no other effect on blood pressure or on other classes of blood pressure medications. It does increase the blood level of statins (drugs that lower cholesterol), but the effect is small.
In summary, it is probably best not to take medication together with grapefruit juice.
