Senior Health

My father had an EEG and the doctor classified it as abnormal because of the results being indicative of an ecephalopathy. Can someone please explain to me what that means.

Well, it all depends on the reason the EEG was requested. Is he confused at times? Has he got a fever or liver or kidney failure? Has he got delirium? Encephalopathy means there is brain activity dysfunction as seen by EEG wave pattern. Encephalopathy could be due to variety of causes including medications, infections, metabolic conditions including liver, kidney or heart failure and toxins etc. Please give more clinical information in order to give proper advice.

Thanks for asking.
