Treatment of fibrocystic breast disease09/14/2007 |
I am 49yo, in good health and pre-menopausal. Recently, a breast surgeon recommended that I trial a 2 month course of Tamoxifen 10mg daily to treat the severe pain I am experiencing due to fibrocystic breast disease, with a view to reducing the dose and ceasing it once menopause is complete. Would the benefits outweigh the risks and potential side effects?
I have never used Tamoxifen as a treatment for breast pain. There is no indication for Tamoxifen in this setting--it is typically used in high risk women to lower the incidence of breast cancer. You should discuss this drug with your surgeon for more information and to understand why he/she prescribed this drug.
