What Could Cause Ulcers and Sore Gums in the Mouth?09/27/2007 |
Hi, I have had a sore mouth for the last few days. I seem to have a painful ulcer on the underneath area of my tongue. The inside of my top and bottom lips feel slightly swollen, tight and sensitive, the flappy bits under my tongue are red and swollen as are my gums, particularly at the back. I do remember biting the area where the ulcer has appeared about a week ago and wonder whether this could have caused an infection. Please advise. Thank you.
Any type of mucosal ulcers could be the source of infection in and around the mouth. But those should not be underestimated. If it persists more than 1-2 weeks, it should be evaluated and possibly biopsied. Thanks.
