Sarcoidosis09/11/2007 |
I am 46 years old and have been diagnosed with sarcoidosis now for 8 years. I just went through some tough times with the decease but thats one more under my belt. I seems like once a year I have a spell. My son is very curious if he will follow in my footsteps. I did`nt know it was heredity. Is this a new finding?
The scientific evidence gained over the past 20 years indicates that the risk of sarcoidosis is slightly higher in family members of patients with sarcoidosis. Even so, the chance is less than 1%. If your son develops unexplained symptoms, such as cough, chest pains, or shortness of breath, I would advise that he see a doctor. Otherwise, there is no specific screening for sarcoidosis recommended.
