Subcarinal lymph node

11/16/2007

Question:

I have recently had a CT scan which identified a 9 mm subcarinal lymph node, I have had previous breast cancer and during follow up have never had a node appear in my chest x ray. What would you suggest as the next step and if only one node then are my chances of not having cancer better????

Answer:

Lymph nodes less than 1 cm are considered normal.  However, if this lymph node is larger than in the past, I would follow up with another chest CT in 4-6 months.
