Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder

Use of Adderall XR and Pain Medicine

09/26/2007

Question:

I take 20mg Adderall XR in the mornings every day. I have been prescribed 10mg/750 hydrocodone for herniated disks, and a torn rotator cuff. Is there a risk associated with using both medicines at the same time?

Answer:

The problem is that multiple amphetamine salts (Adderall), or any stimulant, can augment the psychoactive properties (not those that help with pain) of hydrocodone and hydrocodone will make you less attentive. Make sure all your doctors know all your medicine and still feel you should be on them all right now.
