Pomegranate interaction with prescription

09/24/2007

Question:

I take 25MG of Atenolol,10MG of Lisinopril, & 12MG of HCTZ daily. Can I drink 8oz. of Pomegranate juice and 8oz. of grapefruit juice daily as long as I am taking those perscription drugs? Thank You

Answer:

Thank you for the question.

I found no evidence of an interaction between grapefruit and pomegranate juices and any of these 3 medications. Drinking grapefruit and pomegranate juices is not usually a problem with these drugs. Grapefruit juice can interact with some medications, so it is important to let your doctor and pharmacist know what medicines you are taking. Please see your physician if you have any further questions about your medications and how to take them.
