Sarcoidosis |
Firefighting and sarcoidosis09/24/2007 |
Is there a relation of the two? I`ve been a firefighter for a about 10 years.I was told I have have sarcoidosis after a Haz- Mat physical. Enlarged lymphnodes on a chest x-ray. thank you for your time.
The recent 9/11 terrorist event provides evidence that firefighters may be at higher risk of developing sarcoidosis. There are a few other studies that seem to support this. Overall, the evidence is compelling, but does not prove a link between the two. Since the cause of sarcoidosis is currently unknown, it is difficult to prove that exposure to dust and fumes on the job is the cause of sarcoidosis in these individuals.
