Prednisone withdrawal

09/28/2007

Question:

I recently had a flare up of my Chrons disease. I was on Prednisone for 2 months. I was weaned down to 5mg and have not taken Prednisone for a month. Since not taking the med, I have had severe joint pain in my hips, knees and shoulders. How long will this last and is there any meds I can take to reduce the pain?

Answer:

This commonly occurs after prednisone is weaned off. Talk to your GI physician to see if a slower taper is in order. In the meantime, if you are not allergic to acetaminophen, try that for joint pain.
