Baby gum bruising09/28/2007 |
My baby is teething and i noticed a bruise on his gum where a tooth is about to come out.
While a dentist performing an exam would really be able to give you the best diagnosis, this sounds like an eruption "cyst" or eruption hematoma, which is not uncommon. Essentially, blood gets trapped underneath the gums and it shows through, giving the gums a purplish/bluish color. These usually "pop" when the tooth comes in - and sometimes you might even notice blood on the toothbrush/washcloth you are using. If it persists, gets larger, looks like a "raspberry" - meaning many small bumps grouped together - I would take your baby in to the dentist.
Hope this helps.
