8 year old pant wetting10/10/2007 |
My eldest son was out of nappies at 2 yrs and 3 months, but has never been completely dry for any length of time. He has gone through phases of being less wet (ie only a small wet patch in a day), but mostly does a significant patch two or three times a day. This mostly occurs when he obviously needs to go to the toilet, but can also be only 30 mins to an hour after going - so wouldn`t seem to be brought on purely by having a full bladder. The puzzling thing is he has been completely dry on a night from 3 years old and has never had a night time accident.
I have tried everything over the years - from sticker charts, rewarding when he has better days, taking toys off him if he has particularly bad days, ingnoring it, getting cross - but nothing has an effect. Is it just laziness or could there be something physical which he can`t help?
It sounds like he has an overactive bladder. Anticholinergic therapy (medication) may be helpful. It would be reasonable to have him evaluated by a pediatric urologist or urotherapist.
