I am 45 years old. I have symptoms of menopause. I have not had a period for 3 months. I had my hormones tested with the following results: Estradiol: 170 FSH: 34.6 LH: 29.1 My doctor says this is definetly not menopause. Could you evaluate these tests for me?
Your estradiol level is clearly not in the menopausal range. The other tests are borderline. The problem with measuring hormone levels in the menopause transition is that they can change from day to day. They might look clearly menopausal one day and not the next. Women go in and out of menopause for during this time. Menses can stop and start. Hot flashes come and go. Because of this confusing pattern, menopause has been defined as ONE YEAR of no menses.
