Back pain due to compression fracture of T11

10/08/2007

Question:

After having kyphoplasy , I experienced immediate releif. A year later I am experiencing cronic pain. My question is...What are your thoughts on trying acupuncture to relieve this disocmfort?

Answer:

Although acupuncture has certainly been used for pain in the past, we are not aware of evidence suggesting that it will relieve pain in the specific diagnosis that you are describing. So, we would suggest proceeding with caution.

You may also want to try acupressure; the principles are the same as acupuncture, but it can be taught to you and/or your caregiver, thus lessening the needed number of visits to the practitioner.
