what would cause my gum in a certain spot to appear it has brusising and what would cause my back tooth to have a dark line around the bottom I do not smoke or chew thanks
There may be several reasons:
-Most common cause is a build-up of subgingival calculus which will have darker color due to bacterial products.
-An amalgam tattoo (leakage from current or previous amalgam restorations into gum structure) can cause localized darker color, too.
- Other reasons (it may environmental...job related; exposure to chemicals, can be traumatic habits, playing, biting on pencils, etc.) or it may more serious (changes at the cellular level, etc.) Any type of color change and/or growth in the oral cavity should be checked by a dentist [similar to skin problems on the body].
